Just a few miles from Arlington National Cemetery and the National Mall, the Cherrydale neighborhood has a rich history. According to the Cherrydale Citizens Association, Union troops camped out there during the Civil War. After the war, many of them stayed in the area and made Cherrydale their home. Cherrydale continued to prosper throughout the years, and in 2003 was granted a National Historic Site designation.
